With the closeness that is the segment of minivans, Honda bets on a little busy area, the sports category. In this market segment, where only the Altea and C-Max, is where you want to compete with Honda FRV, a place formerly occupied by the Stream. That battle plan is noted with a glance the car.
Japanese minivan offers an unmistakably sporty and youthful stamp. On its compact 4.29 meters in length it was drawn robust body, filled with muscles and low enough to what is usual in this segment. In addition, it is very wide, 1.81 meters, which reinforces the image of car crouch, squat, far from the great heights of other families of this type.

Thus, wider than tall, not too long and footwear with large wheels, the FR-V looks more like a big sports sedan than a minivan. I stretched bonnet line that goes windshield underlines that image, reinforced by the rotunda still lagging behind, which is topped by a jaunty spoiler on the tailgate.

If we combine this aesthetic with gasoline engines Honda, backed by its reputation for powerful and sports, we have what you are looking for the Japanese firm: a family car that does not seem so. A vehicle designed for those drivers who, forced to wear a big car, do not deny the emotions that provide coupes or sedans bolder.

Everything emotional covering the exterior of the car translates into practicality and versatility inside. The first thing out of the cabin is the presence of six seats in two rows. It is the first model to retrieve the row of three front seats, but it is the best in terms of modularity. All seats are independent and can be removed. But also the two plants in each row can be moved behind the side, so you have more space for your legs. This is especially important in the front row, then, to throw up to 27 centimeters behind the center passenger (only 23 side) the driver gains in comfort.
The great width of the body sleeps the triple front row seats without the two sides lose space. Also, being flat ground there is no obstacles to the legs of those three passengers in front. What’s more, the shift lever is placed on the dashboard, like the handbrake, so there are even fewer impediments to the occupants.

So, we are facing an exemplary front area, almost MPV manual. Fit three people and there is a surprising feeling of space, which is reinforced by the wide and clear dashboard, the huge windshield and sunroof. In addition, the driving position is very accurate thanks to the set height and depth of seat and steering wheel, but, yes, a bit shifted to the left, away from the center of the car which is a normal model.

The rear seats, however, are more “canonical”. Detachable also offer a more than satisfactory comfort and are really spacious. you can also move back and forth, especially the plant, which can backpedal to leave the front central site when it goes back. Of course, when it does, it takes away a good “pinch” the trunk and, of course, if it is loaded there will be no retreat possible. Apart from this, perhaps the worst of the seats is that are a little hard and the upholstery are nothing exciting.

Finally, the aforementioned trunk stands out for its good size, 410 liters in its most basic configuration, and also how comfortable it is access through a large gate. Under the floor, the usual space for the spare wheel is emergency … a very ugly detail.
After this interesting modular approach is necessary to emphasize some unconvincing points inside the passenger compartment. For starters, the sidewalks of the seats are a bit short, which does not contribute to improve comfort, and that, in general, the driving position is quite good, with a very correct wheel position.

Then we did not like anything the handbrake, which looks like a van. It is hung under the dash and responds to an awkward and unintuitive handling. Perhaps the best solution would have been typical American parking brake, which is operated by foot, or, even better, but more expensive, electric parking brake, like those already mounted Renault and Audi.
It is also well settled the disposition of some controls. Being so wide the car, it has chosen a very tidy dashboard design but at the same time, very extensive, so there are controls that are far out of hand, such as the air conditioning and radio. Nor is bright arrangement of windows, which are placed at the left end of the dashboard, very hidden.

Another striking defect for monovulumen is the absence of voids. Which are divided by the gates are small, just the glove, which is only the drawer is below the central front seat. Incidentally, it should be noted that the sidewalk of the square can be raised to provide access to small compartments. It can also be folded forward their support, resulting in a table.
In short, these drawbacks are details remaining points to an average score that otherwise would have been very high. It does not help much the poor quality of some plastic dashboard: too hard. Instead, the finish and the finish of the different components is very good, like the touch of knobs and buttons.

For a base price of 23,000 euros, the Honda FR-V offers a very interesting and very complete equipment. Inside, the presence of air conditioning, which is standard, like the stereo with steering wheel controls and six-disc charger. They are also factory electric sunroof, the sliding seats, onboard computer and rain sensor. This provision can be extended with the browser, which costs 2,250 euros.

Mechanical and security chapter, meanwhile, has driver airbag, passenger, side and rear. Also alloy wheels 16 inches, stability control, cruise control, ABS and helps emergency braking, and all this series. The worst thing is the already mentioned spare wheel “cookie”. A car of this type can not be entrusted to the small wheel, limited to temporary use and speed RESTRICTIONS.

It only remains to add metallic paint, which costs 400 euros.
